As I near the completion of my 20th year of teaching, I continue to think more and more about the real purpose of pubic education in general, and my course in particular. Doing so helps me stay energized ans passionate about my course. Every course takes portion of our students' time and it is therefore appropriate for every course to have a real benefit to them in the grand scheme of their education. The contents of this course and the philosophies of assessment that Michael Hernandez presents capture this idea. He provides ample food for thought for educators from all content areas as he challenges us to think about what we really want for our students. I learn best when I take notes and pause to reflect while working through material, so I wrote to Michael to ask if he had a note-taking guide or content outline he could share with me. He promptly replied with a document I used as a starting point for organizing my notes. I share this detail because I appreciate his responsiveness to my request and I want those of you considering whether or not to take this course to know that he really means it when he says that you can email him for help or guidance if you take the course.

I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to build fair rigorous assessments that truly reflect student learning.
